Cars and their status by Julius Breiter

A thing that I will probably remember for a while is how Spanish people see their car and treat it. I think they also really value their car; I don’t want to be rude or insult them but if I look at some cars here in the streets it really surprised me how the way they park or how dirty some of them are for example. Of course, you will also see some dirty cars on the streets in Germany but not that many and not in that extent. I think for German people their car is such a status symbol and it is very important for them to have nice looking car without any scratches or dirt on it. Even if it’s not the most expensive car, they treat it very well and make sure it’s clean from the in- and outside. Here they don’t care that much when their car gets a scratch or slightly touches another car when parking. I also experienced it once by myself, when one of the Spanish people I met here picked me up in their car and then we tried to find a parking spot, she touched another car with her car and I was like going crazy and asking her if she doesn’t care, cause also it’s a brand new car she has, and she just says yeah whatever it doesn’t matter that much. I was really surprised by her reaction and couldn’t believe it first but then I thought it isn’t necessarily bad to think about it like she does, cause in the end it’s a materialistic thing and you shouldn’t be worried about it too much.
